Towards Net Zero: Development of AI Enabled Biological Observing

The development of artificial intelligence (AI) enabled platforms applied to biological observations has the potential to revolutionise our biological modelling and predictive capability, yielding benefits to the scientific community and wider civil society. Our vision is to move us closer to a future of optimized and flexible AI-enabled biological observing.

As the Research Fellow on this project, my role was to develop and compare a suite of AI models that detect and identify animals in images of the seafloor. We compared the performance of various models built on the same dataset, but organised (annotated) using different approaches.
